Sporting injuries ranging from muscle strains, tears, ligament and tendon damage are all injuries commonly treated in my clinic.
Treatment for sports injuries vary depending on the given area and amount of damaged caused.
Massage therapy in conjunction with the other treatments I offer here at the clinic such as dry needling, strapping or therapeutic modalities are commonly used for optimal treatment.
Muscle strains are one of the most common injuries that occur with sport participation. These strains mainly occur from fatigue, weakness, and/or overuse of a muscle. As a result, pain and tightness occurs within the muscle which affects performance. If muscle strains are not treated appropriately, muscle tears can occur. Muscle tears are worse than strains, as there is greater damage caused to the muscle, whereby some of the muscle fibres are partially or fully torn apart. Hence, regular treatment and controlled exercise prescription are essential for recovery.
Ligament damage is also a common injury seen in the clinic. The ankle ligaments are most often injured, especially in field sports. Treatment for ligament damage, regardless of the joint affected, includes dry needling and massage therapy. However, the most important treatment method is rehabilitation.
When the ligaments are sprained, it causes them to stretch further than they are made to. As a result, laxity occurs in the ligament as it is no longer as strong and capable of holding the joint in the correct position needed to prevent injury. Therefore, a tailored rehabilitation programme is pivotal in strengthening the ligament, and joint to prevent reinjury.
